These units have dedicated life enrichment staff to keep our residents positively engaged, and safety protocols ensure that everyone is in a safe environment. Our experienced direct care staff understand the needs of a resident with cognitive impairment.

An individual with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia may require specialized care to appropriately meet their needs. Gracedale offers two memory care units dedicated to caring for our residents who require those services.
Gracedale’s two dedicated memory care units differ from our other long-term units in various ways. Our memory care staff are more experienced in caring for our residents with dementia and receive more training focused on de-escalation, reality orientation, and effective communication. Our therapeutic recreation staff is also in the memory care unit seven days a week to provide positive engagement activities for our residents. Each memory care unit also follows safety guidelines to limit residents’ potential for injury or elopement.
While dementia in health care is a term often used broadly, we make every effort to determine what each resident’s individual needs are. Even though our memory care units are specialized, they may not be appropriate for each resident with a dementia or Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. Before admission we will take all information into account before discussing what we feel would be most appropriate for your loved one. At Gracedale we are always assessing the needs of our residents with safety and well-being in mind. If a resident’s needs change during their stay at Gracedale we may offer a memory care unit to meet those needs after admission.
